Hao Jiming, the well-known expert in environmental engineering, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Foreign Member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering, Professor of Tsinghua University, Member of the National Environmental Advisory Committee of China, Member of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED). His main research areas are energy and environment, and air pollution control engineering. He led the formulation of national plan for acid rain control and the studies on the countermeasures, and played a vital role in developing control measures for acid rain in China. He established methodology for the planning of motor vehicle pollution control and promoted the process in China. He has developed theories and methodologies for air quality improvement of megacity and promoted coordinated prevention and control of regional compound air pollution. He conducted research on key control technologies for coal-fired flue gas dust removal, desulfurization and denitrification, and motor vehicle pollution control, which promoted industrial technology upgrading. He has won awards and titles of the National Science and Technology Progress Award (1st Class and 2nd Class), the National Natural Science Award (2ndClass), the State Technological Invention Award (2ndClass), the National Teaching Master in 2006, the 2015 Hagen-Smith Clean Air Awards and the IBM Global Faculty Award in 2016.
